Reisen

A while ago (before EMF) I was working on a clone of the Google Cardboard virtual reality thingy, as I don’t really rate cardboard as a construction material and always make things out of MDF. And at EMF I got a chance to make a prototype (and several further revision) thanks to Just Add Sharks.

The clone is designed parametrically in OpenSCAD meaning it can be made to work with virtually any device and made to suit any set of lenses or head.

I did add a few other cool things that I felt the original cardboard was missing (or did not get quite right):

  • Latching front panel door to hold device in place
  • Cutout for glasses
  • Cutout for USB and audio connectors, although this is only required on Reisen because the device is fully enclosed
  • Fully enclose the device to prevent light leakage into the Cardboard

If anyone is curious the name comes from the lunatic rabbit from Touhou.

With any luck I will get round to writing about my TiLDA project by the end of the week.
